Trust is paramount

“As you can imagine, trust is critical in our sector,” says Adam Pike, who co-founded SuperCarers with his brother Daniel, after watching their mother struggle with finding adequate care for their elderly grandmother.

“Families understandably want the very best quality care for the people dearest to them. They need to know they can have 100% confidence in the people we send into their homes.”

Offering a seven day service, even on national holidays, SuperCarers provides compassionate care for people suffering with illnesses and conditions ranging from Alzheimer's disease to cancer.

Carers wishing to apply to work via SuperCarers register online, a process that takes just 15 minutes. If they seem a good match, SuperCarers will run a series of rigorous background checks followed by a face-to-face interview.

SuperCarers use Onfido’s platform to run enhanced DBS checks (previously known as CRB checks), identity checks, right to work checks and document checks.

“We don’t compromise when it comes to screening applicants,” says Adam. “Onfido helps give us the authenticity we need to justify the trust people place in us.

Supporting a new way of caring

Only in its second year of operations, SuperCarers has already won much public acclaim for using technology to rethink how care can be provided in the community and for providing carers with a way to earn a living wage, something often not possible with traditional agency models.

Adam says: “By connecting the carer and family directly, it removes the cost of using an agency or third party. That means we offer lower costs for families and can pay the carer more, so it’s win-win.

“One of the reasons we can do that is the efficiency of our platform. Onfido removes the paperwork and manual adminthat used to be needed to run checks and slowed the hiring processes down.”

Caring for carers

As well as being impressed by the depth of Onfido’s offering and the range of its products, Adam and his team were also taken with the user-friendly design of Onfido’s software.

“Onfido’s simplicity and ease of use was a big factor in us going with them,” explained Adam. “As an administrator, it was incredibly intuitive to navigate and we didn’t require specialist training.”

“We deal with a large volume of background checks, and we need to have a tool that can process the high numbers of applicants reliably. Onfido makes it easy to see the status of all the carers who apply, so we always know exactly where we are and how our recruitment is going at any one time.”

Throughout the integration of Onfido’s API into SuperCarer’s application process, Adam and his team had constant assistance from Onfido’s support team.

“The customer support was always excellent,” says Adam. “We haven’t needed it much, but whenever we’ve had a question or needed a little help they’ve been brilliant. With Onfido, you aren’t just getting a tool, but a team behind it too.”
